I guess it happens to all of us...I am now apparently old enough to see the political tribes completely switch sides on some of these social issues.

Today...its art in the public square.

Anyone remember the Mapplethorpe controversy? https://www.smithsonianmag.com/history/when-art-fought-law-and-art-won-180956810/
Back then, it was conservatives outraged that 'pedophiliac' type art was being funded by the National Endowment of the Arts.

Most of the protesters never even saw the art in question, were talking out of a position of ignorance, but still demanded it be taken down.
Today, it is liberals outraged by 'offensive' art in public squares, using the violence and force of the mob to force their viewpoint upon others.

Most of these protesters don't even know half of the people whose statues they are pulling down.
In both cases, democratic rule was the solution. Congress always had the power to limit NEA funding. Today, cities and states can pull down the statues if they wish.

But the art, itself, should be protected, at all costs.
What we see over and over again is both tribes are exceptionally ignorant, closed minded, uneducated, and intolerant. The pendulum simply swings from one side to another.

Today's liberal protesters are no better than yesterday's conservative ones.
