I have a feeling the reason hardcore Zionists like to trot out that invented stat about 80 percent of American Jews being Zionist is because it provides social proof for Jews who are feeling very, very ambivalent about the Zionist propaganda they have been fed their whole lives.

You ask a lot of American Jews what they even mean by Zionism you get a lot of weak-sauce, mealy comments about supporting a Jewish right of self-determination, but a lot of people are super on the fence about Israel itself

And Israel doesn’t give a shit. Their base of support right now is Christian Zionists. They no longer try to convince Jews. Instead they either bully them or declare them not to actually be Jewish.
