On 6/12, HHS released the final 1557 rule removing protections based on sexual orientation/gender ID in health care, arguing that definition of sex does not extend to either. Just days later, SCOTUS ruled the opposite in context of the workplace, making the fate of 1557 unclear.
Some of our findings:
*About 9 in 10 say it should be illegal for doctors/health care providers to refuse to treat people because they are LGBTQ
*85% say it should be illegal for health insurers to refuse to pay for health care services for people who are transgender
Here are the findings among partisans. Democrats and Independents are more likely to say discrimination against LGBTQ people in employment and health care should be illegal, but in all cases, more than 7 in 10 Republicans say so as well.
