Good morning!

I invite you all to stop calling for any type of “justice” that could happen in a day.

Arrests aren’t justice.
Convictions aren’t justice.
Firing isn’t justice.
There is no real justice in these actions.

People are still dead and the system killed them.
A big part of the problem with relying on the carceral state to dole out “justice” is that people want to SEE it and for it to be tangible and accessible based on their limited knowledge about alternatives.

It’s all folks know and all that makes sense to them
Except for one thing

It hasn’t...worked
Not one arrest or conviction of anyone in law enforcement has stopped state-sanctioned violence against people.

So...where’s the “justice”?
Daniel Holtzclaw is in jail for the next 10 lifetimes.

Police still sexually assault people.

Doesn’t work. That isn’t justice. It isn’t a deterrent and it does nothing to eradicate the culture that convinced him he could get away with it (and he did for a long time)
I know folks want to see something happen so they can feel better

For one monent, you just want to get some indication that our lives matter and people have “to pay” for what they’ve done to us.

They won’t pay, though, and deep down you know that.
And by now, you should be struggling a bit with your own state-supported bloodlust, but I won’t judge you.

You want answers that validate your own life and you believe it will come via a cop being arrested.

It won’t.
Your life won’t matter any more tomorrow with an arrest than it does today without one

The entire system is set up to make sure your life doesn’t matter one bit

Not even for half a second does you life matter in this “justice system”
And maybe today is a good day to reflect on how much calling for the arrest of Breonna Taylor’s killers is about justice for her family and how much is about you wanting to feel valued as a human being, so an arrest would at least mean someone cared enough to do something
It’s the “something” that we need to unlearn

The reliance upon the carceral state needs to go through a decolonization process

Need to consider that “something” can look different and be as, if not more, meaningful
Those are my big words for the week

Have a great day!
