As someone close to Jan Joosten, I thought it was important to speak up. It took me a long time to put words where there are no words, no right words. But it is necessary to speak out to condemn these acts, these crimes and the horror. To condemn the unthinkable:
the abuse and exploitation of children. I also want to speak in support of his loved ones who are plunged into the heart of a horror I cannot even imagine: his wife and especially his children.
To speak up to say how my heart, my soul, my whole being is tortured between the horror of the acts and the human being I have known. To speak up to say also that we will have to live with the works we have published together, the projects we have set up,
the conferences we have organized. To speak up also to say that we must move forward, stand up, confront our fears, research continues and must continue, and that we must continue to fight even hard to make this world more just, more beautiful, more true. My sadness is immense.
