I had a string of shower thoughts where I tweeted a thread about why headphones around one's neck is peak character design, so I'm gonna try and recall as much of what I said now

Headphones and necks: a thread of overthinking

So first off, they represent an immediate access to escapism. If reality is boring or too much is happening, you can quickly blast some music or generally just listen to something. Escape is *always* there for you

But at the same time, that can be restrictive in its own way. It's easy to escape constantly moving reality in favour of a fictional world, or music or something else that captures a feeling that you're not going through right now. Fiction is appealing
