So, to me this goes beyond belonging.
Someone who believes that they will contribute to science in a meaningful way once they get trained, will not hesitate to take up people's time.

Putting ourselves down has become more socially accepted than expressing confidence in our skills.
Most of us are afraid to sound arrogant when we express confidence.
