so i talk alot about not buying/selling traced acnh art and i figured maybe people dont know what traced commission art looks like and why it shouldnt be done. so this is a thread thats going to explain it! the 2 images below show the in-game screenshot and the tracing
the traced artwork basically looks like a flatter version of the game graphics! it took me 10mins to draw and colour, while the original probably took waayy longer to make a consistent artstyle and render it and etc
what tracing is: its when u open a picture in your art program, decrease its opacity and draw over it! like so
it takes effort, yes, but it takes a lot less effort than creating it from scratch, and it disregards the time and effort the original artist puts into it!
im not saying you cant trace for learning, just dont pass it off as your own and dont. charge. money.
im talking about it because i see alot of ppl in the ac community selling comissions that look like the above work and it really doesnt sit right you know? its a form of plagiarism, where you take someone else's work and pass it off as your own
i know all of us want to be good friends and support our friends when they make art but i think in these situations its better to encourage them to draw in their own artstyle rather than support them blindly
and i know its hard to talk to our friends when we think they've made a mistake cause no one likes confrontation! but i truly think that its better in the long run if they make original art! making things involve your soul yanno?
im not calling anyone out because thats not the point of this. i just want people to understand that this isnt the way to earn some money, and that maybe dont encourage behavior that allows fast cash by using other peoples work
if there's anything you disagree with/ need further explanation just reply the tweet and ill answer!
oh and to anyone who does this cause they think that their art doesnt look as nice as the in-game art,
thats not true!! all art is good art cause its part of you! your original art holds more flavour and the world could benefit from your input!
if you've read this far thank you! and have a good day
