So the Govt on its e-commerce procurement portal, has said "All Sellers should mention Country of Origin, so that we can weed out Chinese products". Won't be surprised if they implement it across all e-commerce sites.

But what exactly does "Country of Origin" mean?
Let's take electrical fixtures or LED TVs. 90% of its parts are imported from China, but are assembled in India. What will be thei country of origin? China or India?

What about an electric Car? Govt is purchasing electric cars in a big way, but 90% of batteries are Made in China
Will that be Indian or Chinese?

I mean there are so many examples, where you cannot determine the country of Origin of a product.

Instead of making such announcements, it would be helpful if the govt decides to build efficiencies and scale. Make industry friendly policies.
Fix a 10 year, specific target, to reduce the trade balance with China. That will go a long way to weed out Chinese goods.

If you are serious about China, open the Sterlite Factory in Tuticorin. Thanks to the ridiculous shutdown, India went from exporting to importing copper
And you know from where, China.

Open that, and you have a quick win.
