I can’t believe this conversation is still happening but, there’s nothing wrong with pushing someone with a large platform to speak up about injustice. Whether they do it, or not, is up to them, but it’s important that we let them know we are paying attention. 1/
If you think it’s wrong to push them because you don’t want them to feel ‘uncomfortable’ then there’s a bigger issue at hand. They shouldn’t feel uncomfortable about advocating for Black lives the way they do for other issues. 2/
YOU should not feel uncomfortable with people encouraging them to use their platform. More specifically: if you think pushing people to vote for an award is okay, but pushing people to support Black lives isn’t, then you have some serious re-evaluating to do 3/
It is not bullying, unless you are using language that is aggressive and harmful. But simply asking someone, encouraging them to put in the work is NOT bullying, It’s activism. This is how activism spreads, through conversation and encouragement. 4/
Anyway, silence is compliance, silence is violence, silence gets us nowhere.
