A detailed thread looking at Malaysia (Harimau Malaya) kits since Nike took over in the mid 00’s 🇲🇾
2007 Home: Nike’s first attempt at a Malaysia home shirt went for the traditional striped design with a v-neck collar and a bold red swoosh.
2007 Away: Simply a blue version of the home. My favourite feature from both the home and away kits that year was the addition of a “Kris” (traditional Malaysian sword/dagger)
2008 Home: This kit introduced black sleeves with two black stripes and got rid of the red Nike swoosh. The back of the collar featured the text “Malaysia”
2008 Away: The away featured the same template at the home shirt but with the colours of the Malaysian flag. *a prototype version of the home shirt surfaced a while back featuring a break in the stripes
2010 Home: Nike added a twist to the traditional stripes in the form of “dashes” and replaced the FAM logo with the countries flag. The reverse side of the logo incorporated a line from our national anthem “Tanah Tumpahnya Darahku” (“The land I spill my blood for)
2010 Away: A fan favourite shirt as it was worn in the final of our 2010 AFF Suzuki Cup triumph. Once again this kit is the same template as that seasons home kit with a change of colours. Both home and away shirts for 2010 once again featured “Malaysia” on the back of the collar
2012 Home: Nike pretty much gave us the Porto template this year. Once again they opted for the flag rather than the FAM logo. The inside of the collar once again featured the same line from the national anthem
2012 Away: The away once again was the same template as the home kit although this time copying the same design with two slightly different shades of blue
2014 Home: This brought back the red detailing but this time in the form of a triangle at the base of the collar instead of the Nike swoosh. The thinner stripes were inspired by the 1958 Merdeka Cup winning shirt. The same lines from the national anthem appeared here also
2014 Away: By far my favourite Malaysia away kit of all time and finally having a different template to the home shirt. The smart collar and red cuffs work perfectly with the colours of the Malaysia flag
2016 Home: Probably the rarest/hardest Malaysia kit to get a hold of along with the current Malaysia shirt. This shirt caught many off guard with the reintroduction of the FAM logo and Black being used as the primary colour rather than yellow. It’s a shame we were dogshit in this
2016 Away: This was the first time Nike gave Malaysia an away kit which wasn’t blue, creating something similar to what Adidas did back in the mid to late 90’s. Both home and away kits featured “Malaysia” written on the back of the collar
2018 Home: What will probably go down as the greatest/most iconic Malaysia shirt of all time. The home kit features a tiger stripe graphic inspired by our national animal and the nickname of the Malaysian national team “Harimau Malaya” (“Malaysian Tigers”)
2018 Away: Bringing back the colours of the Malaysia flag on Nike’s 3rd generation of the Vapour template. Both home and away kits for 2018 feature the Moon and Star from the flag at the back of the collar on the mesh panel
