I've been reading some iwata asks interviews and there's solid advice in there, but it's also indicative of Nintendo's focus on extending a movement/combat gimmick to every possible thing BEFORE considering story at all. And it results in fairly fun games, but
Games in which pacing almost never exists - it's breathless new idea after new idea. I prefer it to western gritty style AAA, but I also think there's a fundamental quality of games Nintendo games rarely explore - pacing over long games
Although, i dont think western AAA really does it either. Idk. That or they rely on movie esque stuff. But yeah nintendo could be very interesting if
- they stopped sticking to these principles a few lucky founders established (miyamoto etc)
- focused on shorter experiences

I've been noticing this a ton playing Luigi mansion 3, but it applies elsewhere- mario, kirby, zelda...all feel exhausting. Its sort of a videogames problem in general but maybe nintendo popularized it
I dont think 10-20 hour games need to go away (many Nintendo games) but they could be better if they rethink their methods in which a game should grow in size
