1/16 An NFT is a tokenized experience. But any experience is multi-dimensional. Some of these dimensions are specific to the NFT - like colour, length, breadth, time, speed, build height, and so on. Others - like ownership and access - are universal. #Metatokens #NFT

2/16 There are only two ways to share NFTs – you can either sell them, or gift them. In both cases, you give up ownership of the NFT. But what if you could tokenize the dimensions of an #NFT? Can we now share experiences without giving up ownership? #Metatokens

3/16 And sharing need not be absolute. Some experiences are very personal and you only want to share a tiny part of them. For instance, you might want to give your friend the power to alter a layer of an @asyncart piece, for a few days, or just one state of one layer. #Metatokens

4/16 And some experiences are communal. Like sharing access to a live performance with a group of people willing to pay for it. It can be collaborative – like co-building on a plot of land, or even purely transactional – like trustless leasing. #Metatokens

5/16 Back to point 2. What if you could tokenize the dimensions of an NFT? Oh, but you can! You can pick one attribute - access, and create a transferable NFT out of it. If #NFTs are tokenized experiences, #Metatokens represent tokenized access.

7/16 The variety of #Metatokens is potentially limitless, as you will see in a while. However, we can broadly split them into two categories - Encumbered and Unencumbered. This is inspired by something @bnolan said in his @josiebellini interview so pay attention.

8/16 Encumbered #Metatokens are conditional, created by ‘freezing’ the ownership of the NFT in a smart contract. For instance, truly trustless leasing. As long as you have paid for it, an NFT owner should not be able to revoke your access until the expiry.

9/16 With Unencumbered #Metatokens, there’s no need to freeze or escrow the base NFT. Off the cuff example - a timed collaboration; tickets that restrict access to just those who hold them a la VIP passes; voting tokens to pick a mayor – say @Conlan for Gangnam.

10/16 If you want an airtight financial contract between two parties, encumbered #Metatokens are the way to go. If you want to simply explore the full range of possibilities with NFTs, let your imagination guide you into creating your own unencumbered tokens with your NFT.

11/16 In both cases, the owner of the NFT NEVER loses ownership. That’s the bottomline of #Metatokens - the ability to truly share NFTs without having to give them up.

12/16 If all this talk of attributes sounds familiar, it is no accident. There has been a recent revolution in the space to try and capture as much data about the NFT as possible, on-chain. That’s right, @InfiNFT, we’re talking about you.

13/16 Like @InfiNFT has pioneered, minting an NFT with metadata is an important step in this direction. The metadata not only acts as a record for the intended purpose of the NFT, it also captures the creator’s wishes for what he wants to happen with it. #Metatokens

14/16 #Metatokens effectively tokenize metadata. In other words, if metadata is the wish-list, then metatokens are how you make them happen.

15/16 What started off as an idea to lease #NFTs is now a chain reaction which we’re still trying to contain. Relevant to landlords @HodlrDotRocks @svc_hb, business owners @Money_Alotta @An0nym0usNobody @eyeomine, artists like @blackboxdotart and everyone in between. #Metatokens
