Why are young people generally uninterested in taking up leadership roles? Why do the majority of millennials find issues of governance and public policy "boring?" Have we been conditioned to be that way by those who wish to capitalize on our ignorance & untold laziness?
I know of people in their mid-thirties who immediately "switch off" as soon as any topic related to government performance & accountability are brought up in a conversation - even if it's just the two of us. They move on to the latest gossip in town and the latest cool hang out.
We're too eager to complain about sleepy old government officials but are also bold enough to condemn those amongst us that show the slightest inkling of wishing to take up state responsibility... people close enough to us for us to pointedly call out if they mess up.
"The system is rotten" is a common one amongst us. That same system is designed and implemented by human beings. We don't need aliens to undo it. Meanwhile, there are those charged with ensuring that things stay as they're because it's "working" for them. But what do we know...
From what I've been told, our parents partied hard. But they worked hard as well and saw things through by the time they were 35. At 40, partying is all we do and we only hope we will wake up one day and things will be better. They won't.
My hope is that in whatever capacity, in whichever way, at whatever level, in whichever place, let's try and get involved in things that concern our lives & country. Politics are important, but we all can't be politicians. But if we open our eyes, ears and most importantly brains
we will realise that there's SO much we can achieve if we're aware of what's actually going on. We can improve things first on a personal level and then be knowledgeable and empowered enough to force change on a larger scale through.

Ends.
