Unpopular opinion: alot of white people dont want true desegregation in schools.
Many middle class and upper middle class parents dont want to experience the discomfort of true integration. Think about how we describe a 'good school'
'Good' schools have high test scores, low transient populations, lower amounts of behavioral incidents...
Alot of underperforming schools tend to be schools with less resources, higher transient population, often lower test scores...etc
Notice NOTHING in there is about teacher quality...which is usually measured by how well students do on tests...tests that tend to be racially/socioeconomically biased anyway
But yea, no, yall don't really want desegregation. Because that also requires everyone to challenge their biases on both sides and be uncomfortable.
And I'm gonna be honest...many black parents distrust white teachers and administration...ask me how I know...
Until we deal with our biases, really address inequity and acknowledge that the last time we decided to desegregate schools...it was a big fail-the desegregation talk needs to slow down. Let's start where we are first.
Because Brown v Board of Education was ruled on in 1954. It is now 2020 and we are almost right back where we were prior to that ruling.
