*taps mic* you can write compelling, complex, and even toxic relationships because the ability to reflect real world issues into fiction is one of media creation's finest tools, but this thought can also exist alongside the idea that pedophilia and abuse shouldn't be romanticized
if you are a content producer, you need to be self-aware, lmao. sure you may not be as renowned as j.k. terfling or other authors, but those 2k kudos you're getting on ao3 isn't just the same 5 people hitting "like" and being critical of how you're portraying things is important
if it isn't ok to write about real world oppression in fiction when it's obviously only there for trauma porn, why is it ok when it's romanticizing a 17 y/o with someone in their mid-20s (cmbyn)? you can write about pedophilia and abuse, just be mindful of how you do it.
obviously, this also has to work alongside consumers being critically aware! media can fulfil all sorts of roles; enlightenment, escapism, enjoyment, etc. but we've seen patterns of how it can be abused, as well, and death of the author can DEFINITELY apply to online creators
if ur saying "i don't support this irl" & the content itself is glorifying or clearly portraying an abuser as someone desirable (& this includes lovingly calling them "trash") then what ppl notice more is what you put more effort into (that 20k word fic vs a 10-word disclaimer)
ex. lovecraft is often lauded for his horror. but a lot of it is founded on his antiblack beliefs. would it be ok if his books contained "i'm not actually racist" at the beginning?

ex. cmbyn features a pedophilic r/s. to some, it is their first look into m/m r/s's. is this ok?
ex. j.k. terfling has multiple antisemitic, transphobic beliefs and they show themselves in her book + how she posts on social media. is this alright just because it's in a fictitious series?

i don't think everyone who glorifies abuse is an abuser, obviously.
but it's also a key element of being a creator that what people take away from your work will impact how they see you. and ya, it's def a slog now that internet propagation means that your dumb google docs fanfic will now reach thousands. but we owe it to each other to be mindful
and just an example of cmbyn ... my older cishet sister recommended it to me. and when i said it was pedophilic and made me uncomfy, she said "but it's still rep." cmbyn is not a fanfic, but i wouldn't be surprised if anyone's made au's or wrote things with similar plots.
anyway this isn't some like. mean grr i'm the chinese government gonna censor you shit, it's just calling on something that every creator is responsible for? i can't and would never want to control what you make, but being responsible is not a hard choice to make
(also ngl if you're like twice as old as some of the more mindful and respectful people on here, esp if they're minors, and you're vitriolic against them to an intense degree,, maybe reflect on that?? i see a LOT of mindful adults but i see some who are so threatened by CHILDREN)
((this isn't to say that minors can't be vindictive and harmful but like. wtf r they gonna do after you block them. anyone is capable of being an awful person, i promise it's not just one specific demographic. just be courteous to the kids you SHARE SPACE WITH BY DEFAULT))
