Source: SDNY investigators in recent weeks have been probing Rudy Giuliani’s business relationship with Ukrainian oligarch Pavel Fuks. Fuks has previously described Giuliani’s contract with him as lobbying for the city of Kharkiv, Ukraine.
The concerns here are potential FARA violations and may have connections to Giuliani’s monthslong campaign to oust Yovanovitch, something he repeatedly lobbied Trump to do.
Essential reading on Fuks (or Fuchs but Fuks is clearly funnier) and his business partner Alexander Onyschenko by the intrepid @willjordan. Onyschenko is the one now leaking Biden-Poroshenko tapes. https://www.aljazeera.com/news/2017/12/exclusive-dirty-deal-traced-ukrainian-tycoons-171217131747631.html
Investigators are trying to determine if any of Giuliani’s lobbying of the US govt was done for Fuks’ sake.
I had to. But really, that would likely constitute a FARA violation - taking $ from a foreign oligarch on behalf of a city/country and lobbying the US govt without registering as an agent.
Giuliani insists that he never lobbied Trump or the government on behalf of Fuks. But he didn’t take the oligarch’s money for the *ahem* *hell* of it. Why Rudy was getting this money is key.
