Divine inspiration aside, the Old Testament is good Prose.

Nuanced storytelling, good dialogue, decent character development, good back stories, nice sentence construction.

There is enough material in 1 & 2 Samuel, as well as 1 & 2 Kings, for a series that will rival GOT.
(Expanding the discussion, so here goes)

- Elijah & Ahab

Both men had a dynamic that can be loosely compared to Batman and the Joker. They hated each other, but there was mutual respect.

With the Baal contest as a key scene, & Jezebel's supporting act, there's movie material.
- David

The events in his life could be adapted into a series. From his youthful days killing Goliath to his relationship with Jonathan (put the gay spin if you want to be provocative), to his consolidating rule over Israel & dealing with his son's rebellion, there's a story!
...speaking of making a series based on David, it would be interesting to explore the angle of 2 characters.

Joab (David's commander): loyal, vengeful, ruthless

Absalom: ambitious, cunning, charismatic

If it's a 4-season series, Season 3 should revolve around Absalom
- Saul

Good back story. The concept of mental health can be explored (bipolar as against demon possession)

From his early days as a good king to being jealous of David to consulting spirit mediums, there's top-notch character development. Nice idea for a single film.
- Jehu, son of Nimshi

Character growth is admirable here too: from being a soldier in Ahab's army, he's declared king, murders Joram & Jezebel (supporting act), wipes out idolatry in Israel..and becomes idolatrous himself.

Elisha as a supporting character. Should be considered
- Nebuchadnezzer

Oversaw the capture of the last few kings of Judah. Ultimately sent Israel into exile. Went into wars with Egypt and Assyria.

Interacted with Shadrach, Meshach & Abednego. Interacted with Daniel

Grew long nails & ate grass for seven years.

Deserves a series!
- Sennacherib of Assyria

One of the Old Testament's underrated, badass characters

Invaded Israel's Northern kingdom.

Besieged Judah. Sent taunting letters to King Hezekiah, who dropped the letters at the temple. 85,000 Assyrian troops died in 1 night

There's a film here.
- Judas Maccabeus

This one is a tad tricky because his story is contained in 1 & 2 Maccabees (which are not part of the 66 books, but are in the Apocrypha)

Group of brothers taking up arms to oppose Roman invasion. Would give Gladiator & 300 a run for their money.
- Judith

Has a book named after her in the Apocrypha, not the 66 books.

Like Esther, but with a touch of femme fatale.

Assyrian general Holofernes invades Israel. A widow, she seduces guards, enchants Holofernes, gets into his chambers, beheads him.

Something for the women.
