Let me just say one thing about non-POC writing POC POV characters and thinking it's ok as long as they aren't writing "our stories" or "centering" our race/ethnicity/culture

I'm Black. I'm Black 24/7. Black when I'm dealing with a functional difference - like natural hair care
or perception differences because I have to deal with people who have ideas about me as soon as they see me.
I am Black when dating and friending. Yes, I have had to weed out people who wanted to fetishize me or keep me as a token. I am Black when working as the rules for me
haven't always been the same as my non-Black coworkers. I am Black when I cook and Black when I clean. I am Black when I shop and Black when I choose entertainment.

I'm just saying, if you think you can write an authentic POC in a realistic setting w/o centering their ethnicity
-you are likely wrong and seeking to paint a generic character w/ a brown brush.

If you are cool w/ that, fine, but be honest about it.

Hell, I'm Black, queer, visually impaired, mentally ill, and apostate and there are POVs that I won't write because I don't get them.
Because they are far afield from what I know or have seen.
Some things you can research, and some you have to understand.

Oh, and please do not compare writing a POC w/ writing a fantasy/mythological creature. It is insulting. POC are real and have real lived experiences.
