SRINAGAR'S LARGEST HOUSE | 1885, Safakadal. A rare picture of the fabled Dhar Mansion - the largest residence ever built in Srinagar which at a point dwarfed the Maharaja's Sher Gadi Palace before the Maharaja extended it.
The palace was the residence of Rayeez-e-Azam Rai Bahadur Pt. Shyam Sunder Lal Dhar, Kashmir's largest landlord and a noted philanthropist. Much of his lands were taken away by Shiekh Abdullah's regime in early 1950s.

Only one block of the original mansion remains today.
Picture by T.H McAllister from private collection of Mr. Karra of Srinagar.
