Here's a fun fact : The Turing's lived in India since the 1700s. His father Julius Turing was Indian civil service ( ICS/IAS) officer under madras presidency . He was fluent in Tamil and Telugu . He was married to Sarah Turing who was born in podanur ,TN . (1/3) https://twitter.com/JackDunc1/status/1275344899555168257
Her father was Sir Edward Stoney, chief engineer at madras railways he built the tungabhadra bridge in Andhra and invented non creaking punkah fan. They were married at their bride's family residence in Coonoor, Stoney's estate which is now owned by Nandan Nilekani of Infosys 2/3
His brother was born in Coonoor, but Alan was born in london cause there was a taboo among English society over children born in the colonies. Due to his frail health Alan stayed with guardians in England while his mother left to india where his family remained until independence
Oh forgot to add though the Turings lived in India since early 1700s. The first famous one was Major John Turing( must be great , great, great grandfather of Alan ) who fought in the Siege of Seringapatam in the end of Anglo-mysore war. Tipu Sultan died in this siege.
Tungabhadra bridge built by his maternal grandfather is still functional . It's over Tunga bhadra river in the city of harihar , davangere dt , Karnataka.
*the location bridge in the second tweet is wrong it's in Karnataka and not andhra
