/ A short thread regarding Wirecard and financial regulation. The Financial Times and several short-sellers wrote incredibly detailed articles and cases into the fraud as it was happening. The regulator didn't investigate the fraud.
/ Instead, they investigated the short-sellers and journalists. Several were jailed for "market manipulation". Criminal charges were filed against journalists for WRITING THE TRUTH.
/ Now, the German finance minister is taking a bit of heat for that (rightfully so). Did he apologize? Of course not. He defended that his "institutions worked very hard and did their job".
/ Since when is their job to ignore evidence from credible sources like FT? Since when is their job to prosecute the truth-tellers calling out the fraud? At least apologize to the people on who's rights and livelihoods you trampled!
/ Many regulators are no different than the violent police the world is protesting against right now. They may not be wielding guns, but they project power and unjustly ruin lives and businesses without being held to account.
/ As this point, I could go on about how regulators tend to treat the entire crypto industry and the people in it, but I think that would cheapen the overall point. Let's just say its atrocious.
/ But crypto is an unstoppable force with many truth-tellers working for its advancement. I believe the truth tends to win over time.
