Since I was 17, I have thought @AnnaFowlie was cool.
She was the first woman CEO I had met. The first CEO I met with purple hair. The first CEO I met who made me realise that this could be a job I might do one day. The first person I met who I wanted to grow up to be like.

I became the baby trustee of Who Cares? Scotland while still in school and found it difficult to find my feet in the boardroom. 5 years later I’m still the youngest but I’m also a competent vice chair and until today as she steps down, I’ve looked to Anna as a guide and example.
Anna has showed me how to think critical, to be assertive but polite. To look at different stakeholder perspectives, to stand your ground. The day I heard her say to someone ‘she’ll be a great chief exec one day’ was the proudest compliment I have ever received.
And when things have felt pretty rocky and challenging, I knew I could always pick up the phone to her or follow her outside for a chat. I, like so many of us, have benefitted from her reassuring insights and stabling presence.
8 years is a long time to give one organisation and we have done so much with Anna’s guidance and expertise in the shadows. Even before WC?S she was a champion for Care Experienced people at SSSC, Scotgov and in LAs. She is a fierce background ally thousands of us owe a lot to.
She tried to leave in the background too, but today I decided it was about time somebody said loudly, thank you Anna for all of the things you have done for us so quietly.
I’m proud to have had you as a role model, an ally, a colleague and now 100% as a friend
