I'm seeing a lot of friends going through a really difficult time right now, and a lot of people who are feeling exhausted and drained.
It's not much, but I wanted to share my tips for when you need a break and a really good cry to recharge and hard reset the day:
Know that it is absolutely OK to take a break. You’re not turning your back on the issue or your friends, but you need to put yourself and your mental health first. You can’t look after anyone or fight any battles if you’re running on empty
Physically distance yourself from your devices. Turn off your computer, silence your phone and leave them in another room if you can. Get some space. Tell someone where you’re going if you can (if you feel like you need to let your followers know then do, but don't feel obliged)
Take a shower, brush your teeth, and change your clothes. Even your undies and socks! Fresh, comfy, clean clothes will make you feel refreshed and looked after
Pour yourself a big glass of cold water. Drink it, then refill the glass. Grab a light snack that you don’t need to prep too much – a piece of fruit, yogurt, packet of crisps
Find yourself somewhere comfy & peaceful (bed, sofa, whatever’s best for you) and listen to your body – Overwhelmed & tired? Try to take a nap (white noise is really useful). Wired & mind racing? Try watching an old ep of your fav TV show, something comfortable & distracting
Talk to someone you feel safe with if you can. Chat to a friend, colleague, family member. Even if it’s just to say “whew everything sucks & I’m feeling a bit rubbish”, even if you don’t talk about your feelings at all – just make contact with another human if you're up to it
Repeat step 1: It is ABSOLUTELY OK to take a break, your mental health is paramount.

I am so immensely proud of the friends I’ve seen stepping up and speaking out recently. Look out for each other, be brave, be strong, but look after yourself too 💙
