A comment that I dislike from white people is
'change takes time.' This is considering it took little to no time to employ an all white department. But when questions of racial equity &accountability are raised, it going to 'take time' for actions you implemented within seconds!
'Change takes time' is a strategy of avoidance and delay. It is said as rhetoric to be seen to be addressing the issue whilst doing nothing at all.
'Change takes time' is a signalling strategy by white people to white people to communicate their interests & comforts will be centred & maintained in a change that may or may not happen. It is also designed to pacify BIPOCs that non committed action is taking place.
