Interesting photo blog about the few remaining old houses of Deccan Gymkhana #Pune.
Many of these were constructed during 1920-40s, as the city expanded on the west side of the Mutha river. Unfortunately, very few of these remain today.

Up until early 1980s, Prabhat Road, Bhandarkar Road and the Deccan Gymkhana area was full of these houses - many constructed from black stone, found locally.
However, since 1980s many have given way to boring apartment buildings.
Today less than 10% of these houses remain.

Some of these houses were quite big and grand - especially those constructed by top retired bureaucrats (including quite a few ICS officers) and business owners.
The architecture was a departure from the traditional 'wada' architecture of the old city and used 'modern' designs.
