Five beautiful things I learned from my father that I value even more today...
Take quantum leaps
Papa says every generation should make a leap over the previous. He was born in a Gangoh, moved to Delhi, and couldn’t afford to buy a study table at some point. He eventually ranked 7th all India IAS. Be bigger than your circumstances, have vision.

Learn at every age
Papa went to a Hindi medium school, but speaks some 7 languages today. We studied Italian together and he would painstakingly sit with his teacher daily to get things right. And he reads 8 global newspapers when he is near 70 today.

Always move forward
Moving countries every three years felt so easy - because Papa always looked forward. It was about looking forward to a new school, new friends and a new home, not crying over what we left behind. Jo choot gaya, he says, woh daur kuch aur tha.

Invest in big things
I applied to college with financial aid because we couldn’t pay full US tuition fees. I got accepted to schools who gave larger financial aid than Wharton, and was quite happy to go there. He said this was unthinkable - on the big things, always invest.

Be an ambassador
Papa lived the title of Ambassador of India. When people see me, they see India - and every thing, how you walk, how you talk, and how you dress (even when not at work), contributes to that impression. Today, when I represent a brand, I remember this.

Every father has an inspiring story, and many of these stories never get told. This was my attempt to share a small slice of the story.
I hope I can conduct my career with as much dignity, style and class as my father did. Happy Father’s Day.
