If you're reading Black authors now, that's great. But if it took a horrifying video, protests, and a push to support Black creators to get that book in your hands, you need to sit w/that. Then you have some work to do. It's going to be hard, but it needs to be done.
That's not me saying you're a racist so put those hackles down. We all have bias. Every. Last. One. Of. Us. That isn't a moral failing, it's an opportunity to learn. It shouldn't take Breonna, Ahmaud, and George to make you reach for stories that aren't centering your experience
It shouldn't take endless videos of police brutalizing Black people to make you want to support Black businesses.
The fact that systemic racism exists in this world in 20 fucking 20 should be enough. There shouldn't need to be a call to action.

If you're not working to dismantle the racist system in your community and your life, that's not allyship. Ending racism starts at home. Load your shelves up with books written by diverse authors, NOT white authors writing token side characters for points.
Talk about Black creators all the time, not just when the world is mourning. You shouldn't have to watch someone die on video to care about changing this rigged system.
And you better not let this passion fade when the streets clear. Black voices matter all the time.
