1. Education history. Working on a blog post about what's coming down right now - the culmination of 200 years of the compulsory state schooling movement, the final consolidation of all education into the hands of the state.

2. Modern compulsory state-controlled schooling's foundational idea: WE ARE THE PROBLEM SCHOOLING WILL SOLVE. Fichte, whose ideas were enthusiastically adopted by the Prussian schools that inspired Mann, etc. in America: Parents, family, church *ruin* kids; the state must fix it!
3. Fichte proposed simply taking ALL children away from their parents, and keeping them strictly separated until they'd been properly trained to do what the (state certified) teachers told them to do.
This reflexive obedience was sold as ultimate in enlightenment.
This reflexive obedience was sold as ultimate in enlightenment.
4. People - unenlightened, foolish, unpatriotic ppl, as Fichte had it - of course resisted, particularly in America. So a slow process was launched:
- eliminate all models that compete with the Prussian model;
- assert the state's right to control curriculum & method.

5. Victory was all but complete once ppl could not imagine school meant anything other than age-segregated classrooms, pre-digested subjects, standardizing tests, rigid time periods, permission required to use the restroom - all tools of control with nothing to do with learning.
6. In 1922, the Oregon Compulsory Education Act simply outlawed private schools. The Supreme Court overturned it, BUT: enshrined in law that the state has the right to enforce *proper* education, to make sure private schools are doing it 'right.'
Battle won, war lost.

7. 100 yrs from Fichte to that Oregon ruling; 100 yrs later, the Supreme Court rules the sexual identity insanity is a protected class.
Well? Suppose your private school doesn't want to teach that. The state has the power to make sure your school teaches the *right* beliefs.

8. Test cases are being cooked up right now against religious schools (and homeschoolers - don't kid yourselves) to make sure the courts get to hear about the badthink going on, the harm being done to protected classes by mean private schools & moms & dads.
You WILL COMPLY!
You WILL COMPLY!
9. At every point in this takeover, the actual professed goals have been a smoke screen. The real goals are and remain Fichte's - to make sure parents, family and church don't get a say in how our kids are educated - WE ARE THE PROBLEM SCHOOLING IS SUPPOSED TO SOLVE.
10. Fichte promised Heaven on earth if only kids could be removed from the horrible, corrupting influence of family, & church. His philosophical heirs Hegel & especially Marx, embraced this.
Hear that self-righteous crusading tone, dripping w/ contempt for us? Feature, not bug.
