#FathersDay can be very hard for many out there. I know. For most of my adult life, I was estranged from my dad and did not have children. It was always day of loneliness and regret. 1/
For many out there who may not have kids, you are a father figure to someone. For me, it was guys like my JROTC instructor, my brigade commander, my first platoon sergeant. There are many who helped shape me. 2/
For those of you without a dad in your life, such men are in your lives too. And today, they too would love to hear from you. Especiallly if they themselves don't have kids of their own. 3/
Being a father is more than biological. It goes beyond blood and names, it's being there to help shape and mentor. To coach and listen. And it comes in many forms. 4/
In my 40s, I was fortunate to make peace with my dad and bring him back into my life. Thanks to the amazing opportunity of adoption, I finally became a dad. But I will never forget the men who shaped me and the kids I was honored to mentor over the decades. 5/
So to those unofficial dads, first sergeants, coaches, teachers, mentors, #HappyFathersDay2020.
End.
