While I definitely relate to artists hating the phrase "you're so talented", I wanna reframe it in a way that I can take more positively. Thread:
Merriam-Webster defines it as the image above.

While the textbook definitions are pretty straightforward, what if we look at talent not as having a defined level you're born with and only go up from, I look at it as more of a growth factor.
Let me explain in gamer terminology (bec that's what I'm familiar with):
Say there are two players. Both are low level. The talented player defeats two enemies. They level up to 5. The other player does the same. They only level up to 2. What happened?
I wanna see that as talent. Higher rate of exp gain, basically. And this can be true for every "talent", every profession. Different people just have better exp rates on different skills. So when people say "oh, you're so talented", think of it as them noting your exp gain,
Of course that's probably not what they mean. And yes, you can call this fantasizing what people are thinking. But it's a different outlook in life. So many people are so hostile towards ignorant behavior, so ready to point out what should and shouldn't be done. Of course,
this doesn't, and shouldn't be applied to all things. But I feel like it should be a matter of keeping positive instead of acting like you know what people should be doing. All these "do's and don'ts" that artists make just sound patronizing to me, honestly.
Not to say you shouldn't listen to them, since they're only ever setting up their boundaries. This is just how I view it, is all.
