The usual suspects, @AdamWagner1 who muted me and @JolyonMaugham, who blocked me, are threatening women with losing their reproductive rights if they question 'Gillick competence'. This is a smoke screen.
Gillick competence refers to the capacity of minors to consent to medical treatment (specifically in reproductive rights) without their parents' knowledge or consent. These are the criteria.
As you can see, one of the elements is that the minor refuses to inform the parents, or another trusted adult, of her decision.
Now notice that the ones clamoring the loudest for Gillick in transgender cases are Mermaids. A charity whose main goal is to support 'families'.
So why do Mermaids worry so much about Gillick competence? Is it because they want to make sure they can medically trans children without their parents' consent, even if they themselves do not know long term effects of hormones on fertility?
And why do some legal experts want to establish Gillick competence for trans children so badly they are blackmailing women with their reproductive rights?
