I see people saying 'don't worry about Apple/Google Bluetooth contact tracing API because you'll have to install an app and switch on Bluetooth'. I think more caution is needed 1/6
1. Lots of people have Bluetooth on all the time to link to wearables/vehicles. Of course they can abandon their watch/fitbit/vehicle audio, but why should they have to? Saying 'it's up to you if you switch Bluetooth on' fails to understand how BT is used 2/6
2. It is pretty easy to smuggle use of API into another app. Lots of people don't check/understand permissions when they install apps. And actually they shouldn't have to. Don't develop a capability that is so potentially toxic users have to refuse it. 3/6
3. If you think that govt/police/intelligence won't try and exploit this data you weren't paying attention to Snowden and should educate yourself about the lengths govts go to snoop on citizens 4/6
4. Yet again the infrastructure of government is being developed by private companies with no democratic insight. Even if API is open source it isn't possible for there to be public discussion/input. This is another step in the expansion of technocracy 5/6
