This Arsenal team are not underperforming, this is just their level. It’s a mid-table side and it’s going to take a few years before we’re genuinely worthy of top-tier European football again. Arsenal fans need to accept that and adjust their short and long term expectations.
Bar a handful of players (Leno, Tierney, Saliba, Saka, maybe Pepe, maybe Reiss-Nelson) we should be listening to offers for pretty much the entire squad. This rebuild needs to focus on youth and players who *actually want to be here*.
There’s no point holding on to Aubameyang for a year or two just to compete for Europa League places, sell and reinvest in someone with a long term future at the club. And we have to do everything we can to shift Özil, even if it means paying some of his wages for a year.
Somehow Arteta needs to wrestle control of recruitment away from Sanllehi and his super agent mates. The transfers in the last 12 months have been abysmal, and if the owners actually cared Raul would be sacked for them alone.
Arteta spoke of the need for a change in culture at the club and this applies to the us fans as much to the players. No more extreme reactions to every single bad result, or jumping on player’s backs at every given opportunity, or not turning up to the stadium because you cba.
That last point about fans not turning up really fucks me off. I think I was on the Season Ticket waiting list for about 11 years, and in the 3.5 years I’ve had my ticket I don’t think my seat has ever been empty. If you can’t go to a match there’s always someone who can.
