Listen, the design for the Coach Trainers in Let's Go Pikachu/Eevee was 10/10 perfection and we need to talk about it.

(THREAD)
They're an evolution of the concept of the Cool Trainer (later known as Ace Trainer). Unlike most Trainer Classes that the we met, they never really had a consistent design over the years. They varied dramatically from game to game. Just look at these cool kids!
The only thing you could count on when you battled one of these guys was that they knew what they were doing. They were pretty much the only non-Rival trainer class who carried a varied team with different type advantages.
They weren't Fishermen or Bug Catchers, they weren't ordinary folks with pet Pokemon. They're like you! They want to be the best! Like no one ever was!

Interestingly they *were* often designed to appear a bit older than the player characters. (This is going to come up later.)
These trainers were the closest representation to other human players. While you could be reasonably certain a Swimmer is gonna pack some water type Pokemon. You honestly never knew what a Cool/Ace/Coach Trainer's team would look like.
Anyway, back to Coach Trainers. They're actually recolored versions of their game's Ace Trainers. But unlike the Ace Trainers they appear much earlier in the game. And their role is to literally help teach the player how to play Pokemon.

I. Love. This.
Once again these trainers represent human players, but they also represent the older generations of Pokemon fans. The kids who grew up playing this game and are sharing this love with the newer generations. You can look at WonderTrade Christmas for a Real Life example of this!
Anyway, thank you for listening to my TED talk. I just wanted to spend a minute talking about my favorite Trainer Class. I think we should all aspire to pay it forward the way these Trainers do.

On a related note: I desperately want one of their awesome jackets.
