1) The most speech-protecting way of dealing with free speech rights is to level up marginalised speech, not drag down speech that has space to operate. When one argues for 'de-platforming' one kind of speech because it's privileged, one is in principle arguing for a new hegemony
2) Fight for more space for speech that lacks it, not for clamping down on speech that has it, unless your principle is that one form of speech needs to be displaced by another. Think in terms of the 'principle' behind your argument, not the immediate outcome you prefer or desire
3) It is entirely consistent in our context to argue that Jan's speech must get much more space and that Ferguson's speech should not be pushed out. Let's have a levelling -- but a levelling up, not levelling down of speech. For we will be the poorer for it.
