SHORT THREAD 1) In the struggle to create a fairer society, we often don't consider the prospect that certain forms of social justice activism could actually be doing more harm than good. I see this happening in some aspects of race and gender politics especially.
2) I suggest that a few ways we can tell this are when social justice activism engages in:
Authoritarian behaviour
The dismissal of evidence and truth
Emotional blackmail
Homogenisation of groups
The dismissal of other perspectives
Excuses bad behaviour
Intellectual laziness

3) It's, of course, possible to create a better world. But, if we want to do this, we have to be able to distinguish between those that use the veneer of the language of social justice to actually set us back and cause greater social division.
