Fifty years ago today the Osaka World's Fair, Expo 70, was in full swing. The artist Taro Matsumoto's keynote Tower of the Sun welcomed visitors from around the globe. Osamu Tezuka had designed or consulted on several pavilions. Also, this:
Giants of Japanese art, science and culture made their contribution alongside their international peers. The whole world was showing off its best ideas for the future. Among my favourite ideas were the uniforms for the hostesses in Japan's pavilions.
Japan's hostess uniforms at Expo 70 summed up the dollybird look and defined the endpoint of an aesthetic.
