I said a while back that I don’t think Dorothea would ever actively join another force (she might leave to help the opera escape instead) but I gotta admit AM Dorothea is a really nice concept bc I honestly feel like she’d be left eternally wondering if she made the right choice
(As a disclaimer I think this only really applies to AM and perhaps SS... I think VW is actually still a pretty good option and ending for her personally)
Like the biggest tragedy of Dorothea and Edelgard is that Dorothea truly /believes/ in the change Edelgard’s trying to make. A lot like Hapi, Dorothea’s life has never been peaceful and arguably has never been good despite the “peace” Fodlan has prior to war.
She’s suffered directly bc of Crests and by extension the Church. She says as much in her support w/ Ferd. She’d gladly see the nobility eradicated completely. But the problem is that her stomach curls when carrying out the changes she believes in calls for continent-wide war.
So like. Wow it’s just really interesting to imagine her defecting to the Kingdom and watching Byleth, someone she trusts as a teacher and close friend, go on to head an institution she hates instead of tearing it down. To watch Dimitri take a holy crown, too.
I know there’s a lot more to the AM ending through random paired endings but imagining it from Dorothea’s perspective is...kinda sad!! You leave a fight you really believe in because you can’t stand to see people suffer and find Fódlan as a whole... largely unchanged.
The same institutions are in place, just with different names in charge. And there’s probably a little bit of ease there because those names are your friends this time around but... does that really change anything?
Like wow just imagining Dorothea lying next to her s/o in bed at night... wondering if she picked the right side... wondering what Edelgard’s world would’ve looked like... wondering if it’s all going to turn out well... SO fucking juicy...
Not to go off on a complete tangent here but this is also why Dorothea & Mercedes are such a nice tragic couple for AM route like. Both of them killing people they cared for and not knowing if they came out on the other side truly victorious because of it... hm.
