while I look at the Stars driven Bollywood - from casting to distribution, from TV to OTT -- one thing that strikes me is that when outsiders do make it, they really don't get the attention of entertainment media. I don't mean the reviews. I mean the spotlight. (1)
it isn't just one enabler of this system. It is multiple enablers. Producers who want a 'known' name - even by association. Distribution that wants a 'known' name. Brands who want a 'known' name. And, this could be person xyz ki bhanji ya bhanja. And, the media does the same. (2)
try being a young talented writer and getting a meeting at a channel, or at an OTT platform. But, if you knew someone more gates are open.

The entire Bollywood system is inefficient - from an economics perspective. It is a gigantic bubble - where the system as a whole bleeds. You have some hits - but in most cases someone is carrying the can. (4)
You seriously need a breakout. New talent, new stories, tight budget films. A royalty - for continued usage of the content - for actors, writers, directors, and everyone else - look at the US industry payout structure. (5)
Bollywood calls itself an industry. But, it really isn't. It is a cottage industry blessed by mentors who don't mind losing money.
