This map is from the CIA's 1963 study of the Sino-Indian border dispute.
Clearly shows China DID NOT claim Galwan Valley in 1962. Xi Jinping's regime is making new claims and passing it off as old ones.

On the contrary, note that up to 1958 Indian troops were patrolling all the way across to the eastern edge of Aksai Chin, far into territory that China has since occupied.
As for the PLA, it was not even on Aksai Chin before the mid-1950s, forget ‘always’ having sovereignty over Galwan Valley, as the declassified CIA report makes clear. https://www.cia.gov/library/readingroom/docs/polo-09.pdf
Even after the 1962 defeat, Nehru refused to accept Chinese claims.
He told the Chinese premier “India will never submit whatever the consequences and however long and hard the struggle may be.”

Another thing that strikes you when you look at the map is that China occupied more territory after the 1962 war than it claimed in 1956.
The only legitimacy to the territory it holds is military power, neither history, nor law. We should be clear about that.

The good @MrinalPande1 can give the precise Hindi aphorism, but this is a case of “whose stick theirs buffalo”.
To be precise - look at the point where the Galwan river joins Shyok. China’s claim line is to the East of that point.
