Has anybody done a story yet on the great fireworks marathon of 2020?
Cause from what I’m reading this is everyfuckingwhere and we’re ALLL even *further* exhausted by it.
Around my way they took a break and started back up around 4am.

What the fck is even the purpose in setting fireworks off at 4am?
SOME of this might be agitation opps by law enforcement, but not at this level with this consistancy.
80x the normal reports?!?!
So in NY, at least, opinions seem split.
I’m not a consoiracy theorist BUT, I’m open to considering this. The part that’s finally snagging me isn’t wearing us down with sleep deprivation, bc this started when protests calmed down. It’s getting us used to the constant sound of artillery.

I also DO believe that there’s a heavy resale market that opened up bc so many large outdoor events were cancelled, AND that this resale market targets the hood. But these things can all be true.
NY, specifically, alraedy largely ignores fireworks complaints: by the time they respond, the sh*t is over. Again, doesn’t mean it’s not also coordinated.
And I can honestly believe ANYthing is a tik tok challenge.

I’m curious whether it’s happening on this level in states where fireworks are legal. For example, in SC the stands go up in every parking lot + roadsides in June. Is it as appealing in places where it’s not as novel?
So retailers are claiming boredom. But this is a rural perspective; the streets don’t factor in here.

At least it’s pretty 😫

Ok, I think that while law enforcement may have nefarious involvement in the hood, that’s it’s ALSO boredom and ALSO lower prices and ALSO blowing off steam. Multiple things at once.
... and also maybe tik tok challenges.
And also that as people hear that fireworks are going off everywhere they decide “Ohh! I’ma set off some fireworks too” because that’s how simple we are.
One factor the Slate article points out I hadn’t considered: this year more fireworks retailers sold online, previously very rare.
Fireworks complaints up 200x in Boston, and I said 80x in NY early. Apparently it’s 90x.
Big suppliers comfirm shifting to retail to make up for the lost big events.
Like I already said, I don’t think you can point to ONE thing for the entire uptick. There are hardcore firecracker enthusiasts in rural areas. Possibly coordinated in metro areas. And a combination in between. Multiple factors all creating a perfect storm of fcking noise.
Before anybody else DM’s me @ cops/military, I encourage you to read the whole thread including responses.

1. This is not just happening in the hood/citites. It’s rural areas, small towns, suburbs, white neighborhoods, places where it’s legal.

2. I can wholly believe there are bad actors in the hood. Yes I read @sonofbaldwin’s thread. I linked to it. It makes sense for NY, maybe LA. But in regular suburb USA, they’re bored...

3. Fireworks sellers are having a banner year, shifted more inventory (2/)
3. (Con’t) ... from wholesale to retail to cover losses on big theme part shows, sports events, etc. They’re also selling more online. This is what’s happening in places outside of major cities, but also probably how folks are getting stuff to sell/unload in the citites
4. A dark web already existed for fireworks, bc there are hard core enthusiasts who do their own macy’s style shows on good years and cop sh*t from like, china. There’s a venn diagram between these ppl and white seperatists, so again, I can believe bad actors in places.
5. Complaints have been rolling in from places since early May.

6. I linked to three articles in the thread, one from NYTimes @ the city, one from Slate about the whole country, one about rurual Jersey. I’m looking for more
I hadn’t even thought about boosters/fireworks “falling off trucks.” That makes sense as an additional factor. There are a bunch of low level dope boys around my way who use trusted sulliers. I can see it.

Another entry for suppliers who trade in “fell off the truck” merchandise

Suppliers* ugh.

Thread on fireworks supplies. STILL not saying there aren’t bad actors, but some people are pushing them in the street just to unload them, bc sellers are unloading them cheap.

These tweets track with some of the stuff I said earlier. I’ll say again I don’t think there’s ONE answer, but retailers needing to move a huge surpluss of stock originally intended for bigger scale is a pretty undeniable factor re: the amount of product and level of firepower
In my neighborhood the worst night to date was Sun, and it’s been calmer - not OVER - but calmer since.
I do think in NY there’s a likelihood of funneling fireworks to drive up complaints & give some enforcement power back to NYPD, which happened Monday.

There are still daily Defund the Police protests happening in the city, though, so NYPD is in their feelings.
The reaction of police depts across the country when told “Y’all can’t just act with impunity” shows they are who we think they are.
