Huge cheers for Trump at his first rally as he labels Covid the “Chinese virus” before declaring that he’s dealt with the issue “phenomenally”.
Trump has gone on to that Covid has more names than virtually any disease in history, including “the Kung Flu”
“Some people call it a virus, some people call it a flu- what’s the difference?”
“Some people call it a virus, some people call it a flu- what’s the difference?”
This comes off the back of making fun of defunding position of defunding the police, saying how ill advised this would be given possibility of an “hombre” breaking in to your house.
Even for Trump, this is very coarse stuff.

Trump says some of the protestors might not be from US
Speech certainly littered with racist tropes. Then goes onto say that Biden isn’t from the “radical left but is controlled by them”
No surprises- Trump is taking themes of law & order and culture war to new heights.

Expect more and more amplification right up to November.
Trump suggests that there’s been too much testing for Covid in US (that even minor cases are being picked up)
so he’s tried to get to decrease the number of tests taking place.
so he’s tried to get to decrease the number of tests taking place.
This feels like a man who has wanted to do this for a long time. Even for Trump, it’s quixotic.
I’ve watched a fair few Trump rallies but this feels unique. It’s almost as if it’s the 25 rallies he’s missed all rolled into one; all the material he hasn’t had a chance to use, put into one extraordinary stream of consciousness.
Nonethless, within that stream, some clearly prepared attack lines on Biden, especially apropos war on Iraq, record on race etc. Overall, attempt to characterise him as ultimate, jaded DC insider vs Trump, the perpetual revolutionary.
