I actually don't see any one character getting me properly back into Ultimate. My problems with that game are core gameplay things I'm almost certain they will not address. Ult as a whole has been designed with rather rigid intent.
If I had a word to describe the Smash design and gameplay devs it would be "stubborn" in both a good and a bad way. Good because it demonstrates an understandable confidence in their product. Bad because there's a lack of flexibility.
The patches of the game I feel have been indicative of this. They've been hesitant to really make any truly substantial changes both to the engine and characters but I currently feel like Ult would benefit from something bolder.
Have you noticed that Ult players tend to complain about almost the entire roster? I believe this has less to do with the characters themselves and more to do with the core gameplay. Ult's core gameplay feels like it lacks a lot of the creative nuance its predecessors have.
The game is designed in broad, saturated strokes. The composition as a whole looks impressive from afar and its something many will appreciate, but in opting for this approach it compromises on the finer details.
