THREAD: The chemistry between King's Maker's Wolfgang & Shin is something that I've been yearning for— it's realistic & gradual and while I have my issues with Triple Crown's miscommunication subplot, I can't help but find it a real step/conflict for the two of them. (1/8)
Two boys going through such MASSIVE traumatic experiences in their youth, over & over again, having their first genuine relationship being in their adulthood with a power dynamic is bound to have that issue, I feel. (2/8)
Wolf is very perceptive & is GREAT with people, yes. KJY and Haga's decision to inherently write Wolfgang's character in his adulthood as someone that completely lacks perception when it comes to Shin is strange, but also not entirely? Because it's Shin we're talking about? (3/8)
It's like, "You're adults, please act like it and talk like adults!" but also, these men were robbed of their childhood & are FULLY experiencing an extremely tender relationship for the first time & at a time of real political unrest where they are the center of attention. (4/8)
The political issue is a direct reason I think why Shin is apprehensive & conflicted on how to talk to Wolf, as well. Like, how else could've S2 been written to avoid the miscommunication subplot? I really don't think it was something that was going to be easily avoided. (5/8)
Especially because the miscommunication really stems from Wolfgang's confession in the finale of S1 being, "You are mine," right after Shin is liberated from his abuser. Who was also the King. Again, real painful situation to be in. Like, yes, but also? I am my own person? (6/8)
With all that in mind, S2 is significantly weaker for a lot of reasons; and while the miscommunication is definitely a big player, there is also general writing faux pas related to things that most writers would rip up in a workshop. But I'll save that for another day. (7/8)
WE ANALYZIN' BOIS. There's just so many layers! Though I do prefer S1's nuance with the darker plot points, S2 has it's moments of good writing. I think we will get more out of that in the coming chapters <3 (8/8)
