Photo from Birdwatch Ireland nettle bed at their corncrake reserve in Mayo (2016), most are degraded this one was of decent quality. However there was infiltration of scutch grass, creeping buttercup, thistle. I emailed BWI of my concerns. I/3 @BirdsMatter_ie @BirdWatchIE
I offered to help resolve the problems at my own expense/time. I was told there was no problem and that they didn't need any help. Photo today, nettle bed has totally degraded and nettles non-existent. Photo taken in exact same position, see White House in middle for reference
The last two decent BWI nettle beds are undergoing similar degeneration and within 2-3 years without any maintenance work will degrade totally. 3/3
Again I offer to help save the last two remaining decent quality BWI nettle beds at my own expense/labour? @BirdWatchIE @BirdsMatter_ie Quality Nettle beds are vital at preventing the extinction of the Irish Corncrake!
Another view, my nettle bed is on right of fence, this is what a corncrake nettle bed should look like.
