What's up with Tina Fey's weirdness with Asians? In Mean Girls, underaged girls being raped by Coach Carr are Trang Pak and Sun Jin Dinh. And it's played for laughs as the 2 girls fight over him.
Is it a commentary on how Asian women can often be victims of sex trafficking? Probably not.
In Kimmy Schmidt, she names a character Dong. The same joke was made in 1984's Pretty in Pink. Groundbreaking.
In another Kimmy Schmdit episode, she writes a story line where "Titus Andromedon sings "Kimono You Didn't" is the tale of Murasaki, a sorrowful Japanese geisha" in full Yellowface.
The other plot in this episode is Titus fighting against an Asian American activist group named RAPE who finds his geisha story offensive.
Titus' show is a take on The Mikado and the Mikado is one of the grossest depiction of a racial group. To call it a minstrel show is not far off. In a recent Seattle opera production, white actors were in yellowface, playing Japanese characters named "Yum Yum."
In the end of the episode, the Asian activists understand that they were the assholes by being offended by a racist piece of theater. And they disappear in a puff of smoke.
I mean I guess Tina Fey wishes that Asians calling her out would disappear in a puff of smoke? Who knows. She had too AMEX money to really be threatened.
Truly, what is up Tina Fey's ass about Asians?
...both names are Vietnamese, which considering the history of American soldiers raping women in Vietnam? This joke is even grosser than I initially took it https://www.motherjones.com/politics/2013/03/rape-wartime-vietnam/
