Hello my lovelies, let's talk about parasocial relationships.
I wouldn't call them an actual relationship, they're more of a series of interactions.
PSI is a specifically one-sided process, whereas PSR is more cross-situational.

Viewers come to consider media personalities as friends, despite having limited, or no interactions with them.
PSI is an experience that makes media audiences interact with personas, as if they're engaged in a reciprocal relationship with them.
I wouldn't classify them under

Illusions tho, this wouldn't be exactly accurate, but there're other interesting observations to be made.

In other cases tho, the creator pushes their audience to react, & it follows.

As I've stated, when u have personal interactions
regularly with someone, then this isn't a parasocial thing, it's a human relationship thing.
It's an actual friendship, and it's sometimes falsely categorized as simping.
It may be mediated by technology, but nowadays, all irl relationships operate similarly to an extent.

This also applies to online dating.
Rosenfeld found that about 39% of heterosexual couples reported meeting their partner online, compared to 22% in 2009.
Moreover, face-to-face interactions, & by extension parasocial interactions (PSI), have similar phycological processes.

This is why they're facilitated between celebrities, & their followers, on social media, through posts, comments, polls, etc.
In addition, people may use fundamentally the same cognitive processes in both interpersonal, & mediated, communications as well.

You can even make the argument that some people foster these parasocial interactions, willingly or unwillingly, through a conversational writing/speaking style, the use of catch phrases, stars, hearts, sounds, etc.
It's apparent that we should interpret social interactions in a new way, but celebrities and their audience aren't "friends", and personal relationships aren't a parasocial interaction.
