A THREAD ON THE DIRECTION, LOOK AND FEEL, VISUAL LANGUAGE OF #ELEVATORBABY.
We knew that if we were going to get best performance possible we needed our actors to believe that they were actually in an Elevator so... we built one.
For our color scheme we settled on a triadic color scheme with Blue, Orange and Red as our prevailing colors.
While writing the screenplay for #Elevatorbaby, we realized that trapping our character in an Elevator for most of the film, gave us a unique opportunity to experiment with the look and feel of the film.
We knew a sudden transition from white florescent light to a harsh tungsten light would create a sense of danger and immediately put the audience on edge. We incorporated this into the design of the elevator and judging from the audience reactions, it worked brilliantly.
We also used the colors of our two main characters' wardrobe to show their state of mind. The colors of Dare’s wardrobe evolved from a grieving black to a peaceful white at the end. It was important to us that Dare’s wardrobe had a touch of black or navy blue pre-elevator.
On the day he encounters Abigail in the elevator, Dare has a navy blue suit but when the action in the elevator heats up and he is forced to come face to face with his demons, he strips down to his white t-shirt which was intended to show that underneath the rude, spoilt and
damaged exterior there is something pure and inncent within.
We made a point of this by showing Dare at the end of the film in a spotless white shirt. A redeemed man free of the sins of his past.

As for Abigail, red was the perfect choice. Immediately contrasting Dare's look.
She is a woman carrying a heavy secret. Her introduction changed the tone of the movie completely and signals to the audience that our game changer has arrived.
