being an LGBT person with a TV show, I am required by law to be on 40,54636 panels about diversity + inclusion in hollywood with other creators. (not uncommon for me to be on panels with the same people over and over because there's really not that many of us!)
these discussions typically veer into how we, as people with a modicum of power can help enact change in this business. which is all fine and good BUT I get frustrated.
because everyone knows there's only so much we can do. the real gatekeepers of this business are the network executives that greenlight shows. where's THAT panel, babe? i would love to see a bunch of network execs talk about their commitment to making different shows
they are the people who decide what we're going to see. how will they make sure that's going to be reflective of the world we live in rather than a bunch of shows starring kevin james and hot white girls with bangs who are such HOT MESSES!!!!
we should be talking to them, holding them accountable, rather than just talking to creators. okay. bye!
